Students often expressed that they didn’t have opportunities to practice their newly acquired language skills
Dutch people would speak English to them and it would be difficult for them to find other expats with the same level to talk Dutch to.
I decided that it was time to create an opportunity for my students to truly start speaking Dutch. As most of my students have busy work schedules and social lives it was also important to create an opportunity to meet in a location-independent online environment”
With this concept in mind Tutordutch was born, creating fun, engaging and practical conversational classes that prepare students for real-life interactions

I am Melanie, born and raised in the Netherlands, but now an expat myself, having lived for over 8 years in mainly South East Asia
I have always had a passion for communication, languages and people, that’s why I chose to obtain a BSc in Social Psychology at the University of Utrecht and a MA in Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam. After having worked for some years in customer relations at an Amsterdam based print media company I decided it was time for the adventure of a life time. I left Holland behind and started my life in South East Asia
Teaching languages is a true passion of mine. For over 7 years I have been teaching both English and Dutch classes. I have experience in teaching private and group classes in an online and offline setting
As a tutor I like to motivate my students to push themselves a little further and to get out of their comfort zone by creating a fun and challenging learning environment. At the same time I am working together with my students to increase their speaking confidence and to build a solid language foundation
As an expat, I know how essential it is to speak the language of your host country. Not only does it make ordering food so much easier but it also makes it easier to connect to people and society in everyday situations. The best part of my job is seeing my students progress into confident, fluent Dutch speakers who feel part of the Dutch culture
