During each conversation the tutor will take notes and if necessary gently guide the conversation in the right direction, for example when sentences are persistently not finished, the conversation goes completely off topic or when students start to speak English to each other
After each conversation the notes that the tutor made will be shared in the chat and discussed. Both students will receive constructive feedback from the tutor
Our tutors are trained to be specifically attentive to the following 6 themes: vocabulary and the correct use of words, grammar, interaction, fluency, coherency and pronunciation

Vocabulary and the right use of words
The tutor will provide alternative/ new words and phrases if necessary
If words are used in an incorrect manner this will be corrected

There will be a special focus on word sequence. For example, main clause with inversion/ dependent clause will be used with their respective correct word order Attention will be given to the right use of special verbs. For example, modal verbs, separable verbs will be used in the correct wayThere will be a focus on consistency in tenses. For example, present, past or future tense will be used consistently
Interaction
Students are encouraged to both listen and ask questions as well as to pro-actively speak and answer questions in full sentences
Students are encouraged to ask for clarification if something is unclear and to ask follow-up questions
The aim is to have a natural, smooth conversation that mimmics day-to-day communication

Students are encouraged to speak on B1 level with simple, short and clear sentences that are easy to understand
Research has shown that B1 level is the level that most Dutch native speakers use to communicate with other native speakers in informal settings
If specific work related conversations are to be practiced, we will aim on using the right (formal) language and terminology for that specific situation
